North Suburbs Community Youth Project


The North Suburbs Community Youth Project is a youth Project based in the Gracedieu area of the city. It was established in 2007 and works with young people aged 10 - 18 years in the Gracedieu/Logloss and Hillview areas. The Projects offers a range of recreational, educational and developmental programmes in the community. The Project is staffed by one full time worker and local community volunteers.

Pedometer Challenge

The Pedometer Challenge is a 4 week walking group where the young people track their weekly steps and challenge themselves to progress each week. Its a fun way to keep fit and active with all walking groups within their local community. It is run annually in partnership with the Waterford Sports Partnership. The Pedometer aim is to encourage people of all age groups to walk more for their health.

In 2012. more than 4,000 people from 52 of Irelands workplaces took an amazing 1 billion 274 million steps as part of the Smarter Travel Workplaces 'Pedometer Challenge'.

Previous Events

During the Mid-term break from school, after discussing possible career options with the group, a decision to visit the Emerald Glass factory was taken. The group consisted of 4 teenaged boys, who were given a detailed tour of the glass factory. They received an indept look at how working in this type of environment can be and how important it is to investigate career possibilities and alternatives. Other similiar events have included a visit to a Physiotherapist and a talk with an Army Officier.
